The National Museum of the Pacific War is honored to present this symposium on The Philippines and Iwo Jima, two of the most fascinatng
aspects of World War II. Even after a series of important victories by the Allies in 1944, the Japanese still showed no signs of capitulation.
Thus, Allied Commanders decided to move ahead on two key goals: the long awaited return to the Philippines and the need to capture Iwo Jima.
Noted authors and historians, as well as veterans of both campaigns are among the featured presenters. The program is dedicated to the
memory of Baine Kerr, Marine veteran of Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Kwajalein, Saipan and Tinian. Kerr, a major supporter of the Museum, served as
Board Chairman, Director and Trustee of The Admiral
Nimitz Foundation from 1986 to 2008.
